1. About these terms
These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) apply when you use our website, book a service, or receive services from Blood Tech Diagnostics Inc. (“Blood Tech”, “we”, “us”). By booking or using our website, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you book for someone else, you confirm that you are authorized to do so and that they agree to these Terms.
Clinic and business partners are also bound by their signed partnership agreement. If that agreement conflicts with these Terms, the agreement applies.
2. Our services
Blood Tech provides mobile and in-clinic specimen collection (phlebotomy), at-home ECGs, and delivery of specimens to accredited laboratories, in Calgary and surrounding areas, and in other Alberta areas where available.
- We are a collection service. Laboratories analyze specimens, and your ordering provider interprets results. Blood Tech does not diagnose, interpret results or give medical advice.
- Our collectors are trained and certified, and work under the standards of Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL), the receiving laboratory and applicable professional bodies.
- We are an independent business. We are not part of Alberta Health Services or APL, and our home-visit fee is not covered by Alberta Health Care.
3. Booking and confirmation
- A request sent through our website is not confirmed until we confirm it by text or email, or until you complete booking and payment on our Squarespace Scheduling page.
- Times are in Mountain Time. A booked time is the start of an arrival window; traffic and earlier visits can cause short delays, and we will text you if we are running late.
- You must give accurate contact details and a complete, safe and accessible visit address. Tell us about parking, buzzer codes, pets and mobility needs.
- We may decline or reschedule a visit outside our service area, where the address is unsafe, or where we cannot confirm a valid requisition.
4. Requisitions, identification and preparation
- Tests ordered by your doctor or nurse practitioner need a valid, signed requisition. Have it ready at the visit, or send it before your appointment as we instruct.
- Private tests are ordered and reported as described on the booking page for that test.
- The patient must show identification so we can confirm two identifiers. We cannot collect without proper identification.
- Follow all preparation instructions, such as fasting, timing of medications or urine collection. If the instructions were not followed, we may need to reschedule, and the laboratory may reject the specimen.
- A parent or legal guardian must be present for patients under 18. A substitute decision-maker must be present for adults who cannot consent.
5. Fees and payment
- Fees are shown when you book or are quoted to you before your visit, in Canadian dollars, plus applicable taxes.
- Our fee covers the visit and collection. Laboratory tests ordered by your provider are usually still covered by Alberta Health Care. Private tests, and any lab fees not covered, are charged as quoted.
- Online payments are processed by Squarespace Scheduling and its payment processors. You may also be asked to pay at the visit or by invoice when we agree to that.
- Promotional codes, such as online-booking discounts, apply only as stated, cannot be combined unless stated, and have no cash value.
- Partner clinics are invoiced under their partnership agreement.
6. Changes, cancellations and refunds
- You can change or cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before your appointment, using the link in your confirmation or by calling 403-614-0078.
- For cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice, or if no one is available at the address (a no-show), we may charge the visit fee, because a collector was scheduled for you.
- If a collection cannot be completed for reasons within your control, such as no requisition, no identification or fasting instructions not followed, the visit fee may still apply.
- If we cancel, or cannot complete a collection for reasons within our control, you may choose to reschedule at no charge or receive a full refund of the visit fee.
- Approved refunds go back to the original payment method, usually within 5 to 10 business days.
7. Specimens and results
- Specimens become the responsibility of the receiving laboratory once delivered. Turnaround times are set by the laboratory and are not guaranteed by Blood Tech.
- Occasionally a laboratory rejects a specimen (for example, a clotted or haemolysed sample) or a draw is not successful. In those cases, we will offer to recollect for free when the cause was within our control.
- Results go to your ordering provider, or to you for private tests as described at booking. Please contact your provider with questions about your results.
8. Health and safety
- Tell your collector about bleeding disorders, blood thinners, latex allergy, fainting history or other relevant conditions before the draw.
- Blood collection can cause minor bruising, soreness, light-headedness or, rarely, fainting or infection. Follow your collector’s aftercare advice, and seek medical care if symptoms are severe or don’t improve.
- Our staff may decline or stop a visit if they feel unsafe or are treated abusively, or if a pet cannot be secured.
9. Using our website
- Use our website only for lawful purposes. Do not send spam or false bookings, try to break or overload our systems, copy our website or content, or collect information from it with automated tools.
- Website content is general information, not medical advice. We work to keep it accurate, but services, hours and prices may change without notice.
- Links to partner clinics and other websites are for convenience. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices.
- Our name, logo, text, photos and design belong to Blood Tech Diagnostics Inc. or are used with permission, and may not be copied without written consent.
10. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law:
- Blood Tech is not liable for laboratory analysis, test results, result delays or medical decisions made by laboratories or providers.
- Blood Tech is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential losses.
- Our total liability for any claim about a service is limited to the amount you paid for that service.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability for negligence causing personal injury, or any right you have under Alberta consumer protection law that cannot be waived.
11. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Any dispute will be heard in the courts of Alberta. Before going to court, please contact us so we can try to resolve your concern.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The version on our website when you book applies to that booking.
